Small schools save the children that big schools overlook

From 1 January 2026, the state is cutting funding for small schools and kindergartens. It hits hardest the schools that have:

• • few children per class
  • an individual approach
  • a willingness to take in children who didn’t fit the average elsewhere

In other words, the schools most at risk are exactly the ones that help children the most.

If nothing changes, Slovakia will be left with schools only for the average student.

Children who need a different path will lose the chance to choose one.
